Our Founder Richard Gere Takes Part in the Laying of the First Stone of the Aladina Pediatric Gym in Murcia, the Largest of Its Kind in Spain

A new space of hope for children with cancer

November 28, 2025, marked a turning point for pediatric oncology in the Region of Murcia. On that day, at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, Richard took part in the ceremony marking the laying of the first stone of what will become the largest hospital gym in Spain for children and adolescents with cancer: the Aladina Pediatric Gym. Also in attendance were the President of the Regional Government and the Mayor of the city of Murcia, together with Paco Arango and Ishtar Espejo, President and Managing Director of Fundación Aladina, as well as representatives of the hospital. Most importantly, the true protagonists were there: children and adolescents from across the Region of Murcia who are living with the disease, accompanied by their families. This strong institutional involvement underscores the relevance and pioneering nature of the project.

A firm commitment to comprehensive care

This center represents a real commitment to the holistic health of young patients: a space designed to support physical rehabilitation, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life—especially during the most demanding stages of treatment.

What the Aladina Gym will be: care, rehabilitation, and life

The project envisions a surface area of more than 400 square meters, located on an open-plan rooftop of the hospital’s Maternal and Child block. The facility will include rehabilitation rooms, individual therapy areas, spaces for personalized exercise, outdoor areas, support facilities, and an environment designed to accompany children and adolescents with dignity and humanity throughout their treatment. It will be more than just a gym. It will be a refuge of strength, hope, and normalcy. A place where children can move, laugh, and heal—away from the clinical atmosphere of hospital corridors. A space that is essential not only for physical recovery, but also for giving them back something as vital as their childhood.

A historic moment with real protagonists

On that day, commitment became visible—not only through words, but through a symbolic act: the laying of the first stone of a gym that will stand as a symbol of solidarity, recovery, and future.

Why this gym matters — and how you can help

Specialized rehabilitation: adapted physical activity helps reduce the side effects of treatment and improves both physical and emotional well-being. A dignified, light-filled space: more than 400 square meters of natural light, indoor and outdoor areas designed to provide comfort, normalcy, and hope. Long-term impact: the Aladina Pediatric Gym aspires to become a model that can be replicated in other hospitals across the country. Shared solidarity: the construction already has the support of public institutions, civil society organizations, and dozens of families—and it continues to rely on collective involvement to become a reality.

A beginning to grow and to heal

Laying the first stone is not the end—it is the beginning of a journey of care, attention, and dignity. At The Gere Foundation, together with Fundación Aladina, we renew our commitment to those who need it most: children and their families. With every brick, every square meter, and every shared effort, we are building a future with more hope, better health, and more childhood for those who fight every day. We invite everyone who feels connected to this cause to join us, to share this project of care, rehabilitation, and life.
