Survival International

"Indigenous peoples do not ask for permission to exist; they claim the right to decide over their land, their culture, and their future."

At The Gere Foundation, we extend our commitment beyond our main lines of action, supporting causes that are fundamental to building a fairer and more sustainable world.

One of them is the defense of Indigenous peoples, in collaboration with Survival International: communities that possess knowledge, territory, and culture, yet face global threats that endanger their very survival. We are proud to add our voice to their struggle.

What We Do

We support the global campaign for the rights and survival of Indigenous peoples around the world.

Survival International works directly with Indigenous communities to amplify their voices, protect their territories, and change the rules of the game in their favor.

From The Gere Foundation, we contribute visibility, outreach, awareness, and resources to ensure that this mission continues to make an impact from Spain and Latin America as well.

Indigenous peoples —over 370 million worldwide— form contemporary societies with their own social, political, and cultural structures.

However, they are threatened by land loss, resource exploitation, imposed “development,” and cultural erasure.
Without land, there is no livelihood; without culture, there is no identity. Upon this reality lies a pressing human rights crisis.

When an Indigenous people lose their territory, they lose their future. And with it, we all lose —in biodiversity, in ancestral wisdom, in alternative models of coexistence with nature.

By spreading the work of Survival International among our community, adding visibility and activism to their cause.

By mobilizing support for specific initiatives: advocacy campaigns, public appeals, and dissemination of cases involving Indigenous peoples at risk.

By providing resources and building alliances so the organization can maintain its independence —Survival International does not accept funding from governments or large corporations, ensuring its integrity and strength.

By promoting education and awareness: we encourage our audience to understand that Indigenous peoples are not relics of the past, but contemporary agents of change.

Thanks to the work of Survival International, and to the support that organizations like ours can contribute, significant victories have been achieved: Indigenous communities that have gained legal recognition of their lands, the halting of invasive mining or logging projects, and the creation of international platforms from which they denounce atrocities and mobilize global solidarity.

Every gesture of support, every message shared, every awareness campaign increases the pressure on those who make decisions over other people’s lands. Together, we are helping hundreds of Indigenous peoples shape their own future.

"The land is life. Defending it means respecting the right to exist, to coexist, and to thrive under one’s own rules."
